Spare Time Treehouse

Who we are

Spare Time Treehouse is a preschool located at David Livingstone Elementary School out building. This licensed, non-profit program for 3 and 4 year old children was developed in response to community need, and with the implementation of full day Kindergarten in Vancouver, our special Kindergarten space became available.

Philosophy

Spare Time Treehouse Preschool provides a fun, interactive learning experience through play based programming. The environment will provide opportunities for children to explore, discover, imagine and will spark their interest and creativity. One of our main goals will be school readiness which will be developed through activities and themes such as:

  • Pre-reading and pre-writing
  • Learning the alphabet, numbers, shapes and colours
  • Building attention spans
  • Building critical thinking and decision making skills
  • Building confidence and self-esteem

Guidance Philosophy

We believe that each child is unique and that their behaviour is a reflection of their level of development. We follow a positive child guidance model, in which staff will model and positively reinforce appropriate behaviours. Children are encouraged to try new things and learn from their experiences and outcomes. We teach children to express their feelings verbally and to care and respect their friends and their surroundings.

  • Due to the child-teacher ratio, we require that all children be fully daytime toilet trained before entering the program.

    Monthly Fee: $567.00

The monthly fee includes a nutritious snack and lunch, as well as all field trip expenses. On all field trips, children are well supervised and ride in our Variety Club vans and buses driven by qualified, licensed class 4 drivers.

Once you have been accepted into the Preschool, we require 10 post-dated cheques to hold your spot for the entire school year.

    Subsidy

An Affordable Child Care Benefit (ACCB)  is available for those who qualify from the Ministry of Children and Families.

Please E-Transfer fees, or make cheques payable to Spare Time Clubhouse.

How the Monthly Fee is Determined:

Please note that monthly fees are consistent for every month regardless of the number of instructional days. The days are totalled and the fee is averaged over 10 months. The fee will be the same in December and March. If you withdraw your child from care, you will not be eligible to reapply for a space until 3 months following your withdrawal.

Steps to Take to Withdraw from our Program:

If you no longer require care and would like to withdraw, we require a one-month’s notice. Detailed information is outlined in the Parent Manual.

We believe young children learn best through active play, so we structure our daily programs to get our little ones up and moving and trying new things everyday.

A typical day at Treehouse Preschool includes activities like arts and crafts, outdoor play, story time and group activities. At the start of each month, you will be given a newsletter/calendar and lunch menu to ensure you are part of your child’s learning experience!

    Centre Hours

    MON to FRI: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

All children must be at the preschool by 9:00 a.m. and no later than 9:30 a.m., or have called in absent for the day. If your child is absent due to illness, please advise us what the symptoms are as this helps us monitor the health of everyone. This also allows us to quickly post health alerts when several children display the same symptoms.

We will only consider admission after 10:00 a.m., if we are notified in advance of lateness and with a valid reason (eg. medical appointment, etc.) We require this so that your child may fully benefit from participating in the programming. It also allows us to minimize interruptions to the daily routines and maintains our child/staff ratio. Please note that we reserve the right to deny admission if parents are unable to follow our arrival policy.

    Late Pick-up Policy

Our centre closes promptly at 1:00 pm. Parents are encouraged to be at the preschool by 12:55 p.m. for the 1:00 p.m. dismissal. Parents who arrive after 1:00 p.m. will be charged a late fee of $10.00 for the first 15 minutes and $5.00 for each additional 5 minutes.  If you are going to be late please call the preschool.
If you are late and we have not heard from you, our staff will phone your cell phone, home and place of employment. If we are still unable to reach you, we will call the person listed as your emergency contact. If every effort is made to contact the parent and the emergency contact and we are unable to reach you, we must call the Ministry of Children and Families Emergency Services.
