Spare Time Bobolink

We are a non-profit child care organization that offers quality affordable before and after school care for children attending David Oppenheimer Elementary School. Our goal is to provide a safe, fun environment that encourages and challenges children to try new things.

Each day, children at Spare Time Bobolink may choose from a selection of programs and activities. Our programs include homework club, arts & craft projects, organized cooperative games & sports, free play and educational workshops. During free play, we offer a variety of board games, outdoor time and age-appropriate activities. We also have designated areas for a library, video games/computers and more!

On all field trips, children are well supervised and ride in our Variety Club vans and buses driven by qualified, licensed class 4 drivers.

The monthly fee includes all program activities and field trips, as well as nutritious lunches and snacks.

PROGRAM

DESCRIPTION
Juniors Program: Grades K-3 Our centre provides many age appropriate outlets for play and fun specifically geared for Grades K-3.
Leaders Program:  Grades 4-7 Spare Time Bobolink takes pride in our Leaders’ Club Programs developed for Grades 4-7. These programs focus on skill learning, knowledge building, personal responsibility and increased independence.
Morning Program: Grades K-7 Early birds who attend Spare Time Bobolink can play games, do puzzles and arts & crafts. Breakfast is available from 7:30-8:30am for a nominal fee.
Holidays During holiday breaks, Pro D days and district closures our centre is open Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with lunch and snacks provided.

    All Programs:

    Grades 1-7:

    Before School Only: $181.00Before & After School Care: $460.00

    Kindergarten (includes CCFRI)

    Before School Only: $133.00Before & After School Care: $360.00

    Included in Monthly Fee:

    Instructional Days: Thursday, September 7, 2021 to Wednesday, June 29, 2022.

    Full day care for Kindergarten gradual entry in September is not available, (care is 7:30-9am , 3-6 pm)  regular monthly fees apply

    Non-Instructional Days: 7, plus Sports Day and 4 early dismissals (2 pm) related to Parent-Teacher conferences.

    All programs will be closed on Thursday June 30th for summer preparations.

    Not included in Monthly Fee:

    Winter and Spring Breaks are not included in monthly rates. Payment is IN ADDITION TO regular monthly fees.

    Winter Break (Register Daily):

    Mon. Dec 20 – Fri. Dec. 24thWed. Dec. 29 – Fri. Dec. 31.

    Additional fee is $60.00 per day. Families receiving the Affordable Child Care Benefit please see Centre Supervisor for additional fee amount.

    Please note that Spare Time II, Spare Time Challenge Club and Spare Time Bobolink may not be open if minimum enrollment is not reached for this period; in which case care for all families will be available at Spare Time Clubhouse.

    Spring Break (Register Weekly):

    Week 1:  Monday March 15 – Friday March 19.

    Week 2:  Monday March 22 – Friday March 26.

    Fee: $302.00 per week /Kindergarten $263.00 per week

    Subsidy

    An Affordable Child Care Benefit (ACCB)  is available for those who qualify from the Ministry Of Children and Family Development. There will be additional fees for district closure days, winter break and spring break.

     

    Each day, children may choose from a selection of programs and activities. In addition to the daily programmed activity, they have the opportunity to learn to play a variety of board games, expand their creativity through arts & crafts, have quiet time in the library area, play different sports and learn about teamwork, have access to computers and participate in Homework Club.

    Snack

    We prepare delicious and nutritious snacks daily which are served shortly after school. Snacks include a combination of veggies, fruits, baked goods, soup, wraps pizzas and salads.

    Gym & Outdoor Activities

    The children have daily access to the gym or outdoors to foster an active, healthy lifestyle. Hockey, basketball, baseball, ice skating, co-operative games and challenges are some of the activities we do for fun, teamwork and skills development. With close access to Bobolink park and the school’s playground, we also play there regularly during free time.

    Homework Club

    Spare Time staff are available to support kids with their homework between 3:30 – 4:00pm, Monday-Thursday (Friday being an option.) It is the children’s responsibility to bring and complete their own homework. Our scheduled programs start at 4:00 p.m. The kids that are not in the Homework Club have the opportunity to play quiet games.

    Leaders Club

    Spare Time Bobolink takes pride in our Leaders’ Club programs developed for Grades 4 to 7. These programs focus on skill learning, knowledge building, personal responsibility and increased independence. Each child in the Leaders’ Club reviews the Leaders Contract Package with their parents.

    Goals for a Leader:
    • Be ready to have fun.
    • Be responsible for your actions.
    • Be respectful to others; verbal and physical abuse are not tolerated.
    • Be accountable for where you are and what you do.

    Exciting Winter Break, Spring Break and Summer programs are offered to both enrolled families and to the Community. A separate schedule will be available for each highlighting activities planned.

    Registration

    The Centre Supervisor will confirm if there is a space for your child, then you will be asked to fill out and submit your forms electronically.

    Our Programs

    While each centre offers a wide variety of individualized programs on a daily basis, here is a short overview of the programs offered at our centres:

    Morning Care (Before School Care)

    The centres open at 7:30 a.m. and close when the school day begins. Children are involved in quiet activities for the first hour and breakfast is available for a nominal fee. After 8:30 a.m., children may choose to play outside or take part in school-related activities.

    After School Care

    This program operates from school dismissal to 6:00 p.m., and from 7:30am to 6:00pm on non-instructional days and school breaks. Children are encouraged to participate in a wide variety of activities that are designed to nurture their social, emotional, intellectual and physical development.

    Spare Time Leaders Clubs

    Children 9 to 12 years old may participate in the Leaders Club at their centre. This program is designed in part by the children themselves and it is designed to challenge their intellectual, physical and creative skills while building independence and self-esteem.

    Spare Time Supported Development

    Our integrated programs operate in conjunction with all our other programs. Specially trained staff work with the children on an individual basis to guide them through activities and to ensure that their need for creative, stimulating and fun experiences are met.
